That Spring Look | Black & Silver

We’re feeling colorful this spring, if you consider silver a color. Every so often we want to hit the reset button and wear all black for days. Maybe it is a New York thing or maybe we’re mourning LCD Soundsystem or feeling dark after seeing The Strokes. Then again, it could just be that we’re channeling Johnny Cash. Either way, this look will never not work. Mix and match as you wish. Take inspiration if you find it. Breakdown after the jump.

If you’re going to wear all black, you may as well wear Doc Martens.

    DY on April 3, 2011 11:22 PM:

    Rad!

    Jacob. Don’t be an idiot.

    Brennan on April 3, 2011 11:25 PM:

This is a great look. Good to see that people are lifting the ban on black clothing in the springtime. Include a copy of Spinal Tap’s Black album, and the ensemble will be complete. From that point, it can be none more black.

    A Distinctive Taste on April 3, 2011 11:50 PM:

Here in the Mid-atlantic from November through late April these items will work without a doubt. Always great picks. Thanks

    robbie on April 4, 2011 12:03 AM:

Those jean shops are pure sex.

    Chase on April 4, 2011 12:06 AM:

I hate to hate, but are you actually wearing this? It looks good but i doubt you actually have everything here. what makes this type of post good is the reality of actually wearing the list of bad ass things i want to own.

    Charlie on April 4, 2011 1:00 AM:

Can someone post flask recommendations. I need one, but certainly am uncertain on getting a decent one. This one is even sold out.

    Greg on April 4, 2011 1:00 AM:

I love this look and I NEVER wear black… Maybe I’ll start.

    william on April 4, 2011 1:32 AM:

    Charlie,

I’ve always liked the classic Stanley flasks for $25. Comes in green or black. If you want something a little more modern than I have no clue.

    kiya on April 4, 2011 2:05 AM:

Thanks for that, your post just cost me $78. I bought the 6oz flask.

    TA on April 4, 2011 4:00 AM:

Anyone know when Fuji Finepix X100 is going to come out? only pre-order right now?

    DSTRYA on April 4, 2011 9:14 AM:

silver/pewter laces + black shoes looks great — wouldn’t have thought of that combo

Michael Williams on April 4, 2011 9:51 AM:

Kiya — I think you go off cheap!

TA — X100 comes out sometime in the next few weeks or months. Production has been delayed because of everything that happened in Japan.

    REP96st on April 4, 2011 9:52 AM:

I think Jean Shop denim is overhyped and a bit too expensive. I would search elsewhere.

    Pete on April 4, 2011 10:10 AM:

Kaufmann has other good stuff, too, but those Wentworth flasks are great. Shape like a river stone.

Black shirts I have a harder time getting behind.

    cc on April 4, 2011 10:41 AM:

silver and black? makes me think of raider nation and drive by shootings.
I rarely wear black these days. If I do I try to limit it to something small … It’s so severe and I’m not stylish enough to really pull it off.

    Tad on April 4, 2011 11:49 AM:

    Love the Boots.

Michael Williams on April 4, 2011 12:20 PM:

I remember buying Jean Shop jeans for $230 a few years ago and thinking it was a lot. But because I buy basically one pair of jeans a year and I wear them so much I’m willing to pay up to $300 if I really like them. That’s just me though.

    Isaac on April 4, 2011 12:56 PM:

    Navy is spring’s black :P

    But yeah, nice setup there.

    JP on April 4, 2011 3:49 PM:

    Black & Silver… My go-to combo!

Reminiscent of the greatness of the Raiders…

Black & Silver all day baby!

    Nicole on April 4, 2011 5:47 PM:

We sell English pewter flasks on BlackbirdBallard.com but we only have a few left right now.

    Speedmaster on April 4, 2011 5:58 PM:

Wore my Speedmaster today, and I REALLY want those Alden boots! ;-)

    Matt on April 5, 2011 1:27 AM:

For the first time since I’ve been following this website I actually disagree with you.

    Umpa on April 5, 2011 12:06 PM:

Already there. Got my Invicta pro diver reserve blackface, black shoes, black jeans, black v necks, next is those sweet Persols.

    Charles on April 5, 2011 2:57 PM:

Like that belt. Ordering a brown one to hold up my kakis this summer.

    LS on April 5, 2011 9:01 PM:

Good setup there Michael. I only have the Speedmaster so far.. but am seriously thinking about getting the X100.

Very tempted with the flask.. I have been looking for a good flask to carry few precious drops of Laphroaig 10.y.o. It’s actually autumn here in Melbourne and getting colder by day.

Those boots are out of my price range for now so I’ll have to substitute them with a pair of still-benchmade, world famous R.M Williams chelseas!

Michael Williams on April 5, 2011 9:02 PM:

I’d say if you have the watch you are off to a great start. I wear the R.M. Williams all the time, especially in the winter. I think my style is called “Gardner” or something like that. Good stuff.

    Clifford on April 5, 2011 11:26 PM:

That X100 is on my wish list also! Great minds think alike.

    CTN on April 6, 2011 12:12 AM:

I look forward to reading about what you wear at the beginning of each season, however, I cannot get excited about this post. I never wear black and I only own black dress shoes. Sorry to hate.

    tz on April 6, 2011 10:30 AM:

Hmm… something I learned a long tine ago: clothes & material goods DON”T make the Man, his Actions and Accomplishments do…

    P on April 6, 2011 11:37 AM:

The Speedmaster really pulls everything together and gives it a nice punch.
A real cool watch will do that.
I’ve been wearing my Sub pretty much every day for a month since I pulled the trigger.

    Todd V on April 6, 2011 10:21 PM:

There are just too many great watches to own.

death at sea on April 7, 2011 9:19 PM:

I’ll be wearing black and silver while pissing on the graves of LCD Soundsystem, seriously the most overrated band in years!!

    jaws on April 10, 2011 11:37 PM:

jonas shirt is a miss, need a button up with more texture to avoid looking like some tech nerd.

    JJ on April 11, 2011 11:44 AM:

    The Strokes sucked live?

    MOA on April 13, 2011 2:40 PM:

    Great looking stuff, Michael.

Loving the inclusion of the flask and rain jacket.
